Lenses are the most important part of your eyewear. Barnett Eyecare & Eyewear specializes in high definition digital, ultra-thin, and the hardest and most scratch resistant non-glare lenses. For example, there are over 500 different progressive, or “no-line” bifocal lenses available today. Each manufacturer has lenses designed for different purposes. Whether that purpose is low cost, most distance or near vision, larger or smaller frames, active lifestyles, or “universal fit,” you will want the lens that is best for you, not the lens that can be bought in volume to cover everyone, or offers the best benefit for the sales person. The best lens for you doesn’t have to be expensive, many times the best lens for you is manufactured from the lower cost materials. Lens Technology

The most exciting advancement in lens technology today is the high-definition digital lenses. These lenses are computer designed uniquely for your individual frame choice, prescription, and wearing position as optimized by our expert opticians. The lenses are computer-surfaced to the perfection of .01 diopters of power, giving you the widest possible fields of vision at near, distant, and intermediate vision with smooth transitions between zones.

There are many lens materials available to create your prescription eyeglasses. High-index materials create thinner and lighter eyewear. Polycarbonate and Trivex materials have the best impact-resistant qualities for safety. The patient's prescription, needs, and desires as well as the optics and characteristics of each lens material must be taken into consideration when choosing the best lens material. Non-glare or anti-reflective treatments have come a long way in the last few years. These treatments are much more scratch resistant than acrylic lenses have ever been. There are easy clean, dust, water, and smudge resistant treatments, and extremely low reflectance treatments for the ultimate invisible lenses. If you are having trouble with your current lenses, we may have a solution for you.

Some frames have interchangeable lenses for different conditions, others can be made with lenses that change for various conditions. It is important that our opticians know what you need and what you want your eyeglasses to do for you. These are examples of the common needs of our patients. You may have your particular needs, just tell us what your problem is, and we will find the solution for you.

For your favorite activities:

• Office: Maybe not a favorite activity, but a big necessity for many. We have lenses with large intermediate and near areas to use at the computer (or multiple monitors), desk and reading.

• Golf: New progressive lens designs allow you to see good distance, the ball at your feet, and your scorecard. Lenses with special coloring to help read the greens, enhancing contrast, changing tints and darkness with the brightness of the sun. Sun protection is also a must.

• Motorcycling & biking: Impact-resistant lenses for added safety in frames that help minimize wind from irritating your eyes. Special lens designs to keep the periphery more clear. The colors of lenses can change with the brightness of the sunlight while protecting from UV rays at all times.

• Fishing, boating: Polarized lenses are a must to cut the glare off the surface of the water for both enabling you to see the fish in the water, and to ease eye strain from the oncoming glare. We even offer glasses that float if you drop them in the water. Ultra-violet sun protection is an absolute necessity.

• Skiing, sledding: High contrast lenses are a must to see the contours of the snow and ice patches, and protect from intense ultraviolet light rays. Polarized lenses will cut the glare off of the ice.

• Flying object sports including football, soccer, basketball, baseball, and tennis: Impact protection and quality of optics is vital, while some tints of lenses can help see specific objects.

• Driving: Lenses that change tints even in the vehicle for changing weather conditions, and cutting glare on off-road surfaces and other vehicles.

• Hunting, shooting: High contrast lenses are most helpful, with glare and UV sun protection sharing importance.
